As a 23 yr old recent college grad. I would like to escape America and head down south to B.A. If I were to live there for 6-12 mos. do I have to get a work visa to work? What about bar/ restaurant jobs, are they easy to get/ under the table? How well paid? can i possibly get a work visa if i acquire a job once I get down there? How wonderful are the steaks and tango? Can't wait!!!!

I think the best steaks are in Brazil. So if you want to pig out on meat check out Rio. Of course you'll need a visa just to enter Brazil (which is good someone is stand up to King George).

You won't be disappointed with the steaks (or the low cost of beef) in Argentina.

I think you will find everywhere you need a visa to work and pay will be less than you expect.

That said, the life experience is worth it. Get your plane ticket and start experiencing life without Walmart!

If your going to stay over 3 months you will need a visa last time I checked.

It will be difficult for you to find a job.

Also, it is not so awesome as your thinking. Remember this is not Europe or the US&Canada so be careful.

If your not trying to support yourself by working, why would you consider it not so awesome?

What does Argentina lack that is found in the USA, Canada and Europe? (outside of the jobmarket).

BA is amazing and it has everything if not more to offer than the US&Europe, it is a beautiful city rich with culture, which is greatly lacking in the us, I mean where in the us can you walk down the street and see old couples doing the tango..it is absolutly superb, I didnt a student exchange in paraguay for 6 mo. and got a chance to vacation in BA and I loved it so much that I'm planning on going back there as soon as the school years over..let me know how the job search goes and maybe ill see you down there!!

B.A??? The best experience I have ever had. There is no comparison to the US whatsoever. YOu can walk down the streets of B.A. and see the people well dressed, not hookers and teenagers with pants so big that their underpants are showing. People treat you with respect and the culture is outstanding like the food. Please don't make comparions with the US.

My husband is French, I'm American, and our daughter was born the day after Christmas in Buenos Aires, so I will talk from many experiences.

Taking some time to live abroad is a wonderful experience for your resume no matter how you look at it. Argentina can be a great place to do it and improve your Spanish at the same time. You can survive there going in and out on a tourist visa until such time as they begin to enforce people using the tourist visa to live there. You will have a much easier time living there on a tourist visa than trying to get a work visa.

There are a couple of call centers that will hire Americans but be forewarned you will work at the standard local rate which is not much and finding an apartment that is not at tourist rates is tough, although not impossible. I would suggest you be sure to have some savings in the bank to cover you. Other options for working would be to teach English (which everyone does), teach something like yoga, or best of everything is to have some sort of job you can do remotely by Internet - ie proofreading, resumes, web design, writing, etc.

Prices of apartment rentals have been steadily increasing as well as the cost of food, but if you can swing it then it's worth doing.

feel free to email me at laurazurro@gmail.com or check out my blog for more information.

oh and by the way, yes you will see hookers, and drag queens, and transvestites - Palermo Lakes at night, Constitucion etc, maybe not in the ritzy places such as Recoleta.

If you speak fluent Spanish and English, I need help in Buenos Aires - you must have a good CV and references. You must have computer skills word and Excel, not mind unsociable hours and working some weekends.

You wiill earn $1000 to 2000 each month its really up to you!

I am wondering, about the job area, what would a normal job pay? Is there a set amount like minimum wage, or is it usually always different?

Comment #9 Argentina Expat from Bariloche (Contact Member) -

Normal would be able nothing in your view and you would have a hard time getting permission to work.

Comment #10 Argentina Expat from Bariloche (Contact Member) -

well make that "close to nothing"

Comment #11 Aaron from ___________ (152.163.38.84) -

Why would it be hard to get permission to work? And I imagined the wage to be alot different, I wouldnt expect much...I am looking into a volunteer abroad program right now.

Comment #12 Argentina Expat from Bariloche (Contact Member) -

You probably need an employment offer from a business that can show immigration that they aren't able to hire a local to do the work.

I see, well I guess that seems fair. What seems weird is that I see people from other countries come here and get handed businesses for free...

I am looking to find work for next year, I am not sure how I will be returning to Argentina with or without a workers visa? will i still be able to work without one??

Argentina was an agricultural nation. Farmers grew wheat on the fertile Pampas and raised cattle and sheep on large ranches. Today, only about 10% of the Argentinian labour force works in agriculture. Most Argentinians now work in the service sector, the oil and gas industry, mining, shipbuilding, or the food, tobacco and automotive industries. Most factories are in port cities. For this reason, the port cities have attracted job seekers from rural areas and immigrants.

Good day to all. I just want to know if companies in Argentina are allowed to hire overseas workers? I have several years of experience in the food industry and would like to try working and living in Argentina.

If anyone knows things about this, please share. Thanks a lot!!!

You will certainly need a work visa. Once you have that... then you can give me a good reason WHY a Argentine company would prefer a "overseas worker" to a local one?

Any questions you have on living somewhere or if you need a visa or not you can find a cbp.gov and they pretty much can answer any questions you have on which countries require what to be there, this website will help you out.
