My wife and I would like to know about healthcare for retired Americans in Argentina. Any information you could share would be beneficial.

Mr and Mrs. Hart

Many of our retired people pay monthly to Hospital Italiano, in Buenos Aires to have health coverage. There are many other private options, like CEMIC, OSDE, Qualitas, Swiss Medical, Hospital Alemán, they require a monthly payment, for an elderly couple it may be of 300 U$S max. The health services here are really very good. If you don´t have a private health service, public hospitals never never leave you without assistance, for free.

Hi Ralph,

Services in Argentina are excellent provided you have private health care insurance. The coverages are excellent and you can purchase, very reasonably, a plan that would have no co-pays and deducs. Our daughter was born in December by ceasarian section at one of the top hospitals in Buenos Aires. We had Medicus insurance which covered us 100% since the beginning and I was able to get some tests which would have never been covered in the U.S., or would have been very expensive because of my age (I turned 40 just before the birth). We really liked Medicus a lot and the woman who signed us up speaks decent English and is probably one of THE nicest people we've ever met there, she's originally from Cordoba. Her name is Beatriz Tort and if you search my blog Moving to Argentina you would find more information about her or you could email me and I'll get you her email info. If she can't get your insurance done then I know she'll do everything in her power to get you with someone who can.

Good luck and check out my blog and feel free to email me with questions.

Laura
