Where to live for early retirement?

Thank author of this post/commentDoes anyone have any suggestions for cheap places for a Canadian to make an early retirement to? I'm considering China (Shanghai), Thailand, Argentina and Uruguay. Any suggestions on ways to estimate my living expenses in different countries or other cheap places to live (stretch a fixed income as far as possible)? Which country would you recommend retiring to and why? I'd want to have high-speed internet, air conditioning and my own living space (exclusive use of a kitchen and bathroom) at a minimum.

Thank author of this post/comment"Try Uruguay..."

I've lived in Uruguay for 5 years. Never wanted air conditioning. The summers get hot... but in Montevideo there is usually a breeze.

It may not be "cheap" to live in Uruguay, but I think you get a decent quality of life for a decent price.
